ADRIAN ARROYOS & MAGGIE KATTAN
Adrian Arroyos and Maggie Kattan and their daughter, Anna Katerina, have taken on the challenge of local eating. The family is documenting their experiences at www.100MileHarvest.com, where they are creating a set of resources that includes a nationwide local food directory and local food social network.
In May of 2008, the family of three decided to commit to a year of eating only locally grown food. Every ingredient in every meal had to come from no more than 100 miles from their home. In the process, they've come to understand much more about local food production and sustainability, the real power of "enlightened" consumers, and their role in challenging an industrial food system that is threatening human health, damaging the environment and undermining global food security.
