Hans’ Culture of Soil Fertility Workshop

October 24, 2014 @ 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm CDT

#blackwoodgardentour

Sustainable farming and nutrient-dense food begin with care and culture of soil fertility. Vegetable and fruit quality and food nutrients need a full menu of soil minerals and optimum biological balances. Smart food growing restores soil fertility by establishing soil carbon in living soil with a complete array of minerals and beneficial microbiology.

In this workshop Hans will design a soil build program from soil tests of typical soil types of the Houston metro area. What he will do that is unique, is create from scratch, a custom blended organic fertilizer, with the fully array of minerals to match each soil type.

The itinerary:
• Ecological soil science in a nutshell: soil food web, importance of soil carbon, growing soil that yields nutrient dense food
• Soils of the Houston Metro area
• Soil tests: the different types
• Overview of nutrients / minerals and their sources
• Selecting the raw ingredients for your custom organic fertilizer blend
• Doing the calculations
• Exercises and individual consultations

Hans suggests that the best way to get the most of this workshop is to bring soil test results of your garden or property. He will assist you in creating a custom soil improvement program. Attendees may contact Hans for guidance on taking a proper soil test and where to send it.
